The Millville Fire
Department recently opened
its bay doors to remember and honor the
memories of all those who lost their lives
on September 11th, 2001 in the attack on the
World Trade Centers in New York City.
The ceremony on the eighth anniversary of the
terrorist attacks drew nearly 250 people in
attendance.
The ceremony was lead by Millville Mayor, Tim Shannon who began by stating, "It's been eight years after the horrifying events of Sept. 11 2001, and in a very short period of time, life as we knew it changed instantly... do you remember?"
The ceremony featured musical tributes from local church groups who provided inspirational and patriotic music to uplift and honor those who gave their lives trying to save people they had never met, but swore to protect.
Among those performing was In His Presence Worship Center's "Fresh Oil" choir group, 1st United Methodist's "Chancel Choir", The Sandpipers Bagpipe Band, and New Jersey state soloist William Mead.
The evening concluded with a flameless candle light vigil in front of the fire hall while it gently rained on those gathered in remembrance.
Firefighter Dean Inferrera Sr. rung the large bell in front of the station fifty times in remembrance of those who'd fallen at 9/11.
Mayor Shannon later added, "Millville, along with all other places in America remember, and we've vowed to never forget."
