Recently, the Millville Fire Department has been
taking part in educating the children in our community
with fire prevention and other safety tips at their
respective schools.

As many are aware, October is fire prevention month and
the Millville Fire department prides itself on teaching
Millville's children everything they need to know on what
to do and what not to do in the case of a fire.

On Monday October 5th, the Millville Fire Department
was at R.D. Wood School in Millville teaching Fire
Prevention when an all call went out for a Dwelling on
Church St. reported with fire and smoke showing.

The fire prevention was put on hold and the firefighters at Wood school went into action.

Engine 30-01 and Rescue 30-21 both at Wood School at the time of the call arrived on location in under two minutes.
Heavy smoke was showing from the second floor A and B sides.

An attack line was stretched and Career Firefighter Dean Inferrera manned the pump providing the crucial water supply necessary to put out the fire.

Firefighter Scott Keyek and Career Capt. Doug Hallquist used forcible entry to gain access into the downstairs unit, a convenient store that had recently closed its doors and was preparing to sell. The store proved negative for fire. They then moved to the upstairs unit, a single family apartment which also required forcible entry.

Upon gaining access to the upstairs apartment firefighters encountered heavy fire in the kitchen rolling across the ceiling.

The fire was knocked down and a primary search of the unit was conducted by Capt. Hallquist and Firefighter Jason Smith while Career Firefighter Steve Alcorn stayed on the nozzle for precautionary measures. The primary search proved negative for entrapment.

The fire was put under control in under thirty minutes with the help of approximately 20 firefighters from the Millville Fire Department.

Firefighters returned to the station approximately four hours after the call went out.
