Kimble Glass tank leak

Millville Firefighters responded to a fire at Kimble Glass Company on 12-28.  The incident was turned in to Cumberland County 9-11 Center by a cell phone caller driving by the plant on Wheaton Avenue.

Kimble spokesman Rick Hasenauer stated the leak resulted from a loose electrode block in the tank.  Firefighters applied large volumes of water to help cool and solidify the glass.  Smoke and steam rising from the plant could be seen for miles.

At the height of the incident there were 8 fire apparatus and vehicles including the first response by Heavy Rescue 34 driven by Career Firefighter Chuck Seiferman, one of several firefighters that responded to the second alarm.  The incident lasted approximately 5 hours.  See also "The new Rescue 34 arrives"

Gift baskets delivered by MFD

Each Year the Millville Fire Department delivers more than a dozen Christmas baskets to widows of deceased members.  This year an additional basket was delivered to Wes Thompson who lives next door to a house that suffered a major fire in October.  See "South 5th Street house fire"

The house involved in the fire is owned by Wes Thompson's father.  The basket was presented with MFD's gratitude after Mr. Thompson spent hours during the early morning incident serving coffee and his own homemade sweet potato pie to firefighters who fought the fire.

Kid's Christmas Party

For many years MFD has hosted a Christmas party for the children and grandchildren of Millville Firefighters.  The party is complete with decorations, holiday treats and Christmas gifts provided by Santa Claus himself during a personal visit.

Pictures below show some of the fun and excitement from this year's party.
