Chief Hess Becomes Career
Chief Hess
Millville
Fire Department history was made when Kurt Hess became the first full-time
paid Chief of the company in December 2001.
For
over one hundred years the volunteer members of the Millville Fire Department
have voted one of their own to be Chief. Effective December
2001 Volunteer Chief Kurt Hess was hired by the City of Millville to be the
full-time, paid Chief for the Millville Fire Department. Kurt has been a
long time volunteer Firefighter and the current volunteer Chief for the
Millville Fire Department, along with being a Career (paid) Firefighter in the city of
Bridgeton.
The other side of this story: David Schoch, a Career
Firefighter for the City of Millville was hired simultaneously by the City of
Bridgeton to be Bridgeton's full-time, paid Chief. Dave had been
acting Chief of the Bridgeton Fire Department. Effectively transferring
the career duties between the two cities will help both cities improve their
fire fighting organizations.
Congratulations to both men!
