Patrick Wettstein receives
Medal of Courage
On
Tuesday, October 2, 2001 Chief Hess looked on as Firefighter Mike Lippincott
presented Patrick Wettstein with a Medal of Courage as Firefighter,
Commissioner, John Hollingshead presided.
On July 25, while fighting a house fire on
Mistletoe Lane, firefighter Mike Lippincott fell into a hole in the first
floor. "Patrick caught him and pulled him out," Hollingshead said. [Mike was about to fall into the basement where the fire continued to
burn]
"Heroes are ordinary people who do
extraordinary things," Hollingshead said. "They do them because they
care."
Fire Chief Kurt Hess congratulated Wettstein
and said, "This shows the type of people we have in the Fire
Department."
Pat has been a career Firefighter since late
last year. Prior to that he was a volunteer for four years.

With Surprise
John
Hollingshead received an unexpected piece of new Firefighting gear during the
commission meeting. A
bright red Fire Helmet. John is also the Director of
Public Safety for the City. Past Directors have been presented with a
red helmet for use while they were on fire scenes. Chief Hess stated
that as "John is also a volunteer firefighter, I expect it to be dirty within six
months."
