City cites heroes
By MATTHEW RALPH - Staff Writer, Millville News

Five city firefighters were presented Medals of Honor Tuesday for their effort making a civilian rescue in a fire in June. Lt. Ric Tucker, Keith Mitchell, Terry Fawcett and Douglas Inferrera were on hand for the presentation. Curt Lowe was not present Tuesday, but also received the honor. Commissioner John Hollingshead, director of public safety for the city, handed out the medals.

"The Millville Fire Department consists of eight paid firefighters who work alongside our volunteers," Hollingshead said. "The two factions meld as one. It gives me great pride to honor these men tonight for their heroic accomplishments." The firefighters responded to a house fire on the 700 block of North Second Street June 15, where a mother and her small child were stuck on the second floor, Hollingshead said. "Their quick thinking and actions avoided a possible tragedy," he said, reading from a letter issued by Fire Chief Kurt Hess. The rescues was Lowe's third with the department and Fawcett's second.

Captain Howard Hee and Career Firefighter Patrick Wettstein recently returned from a 14 day tour fighting wildfires in Glacier National Park, Montana.  This was Howard's third trip out west (first as a Squad Boss) to join the annual battles versus wildfires that rage in various states.   Patrick worked hard on his first tour of duty fighting the major wild fires in other states.  The men were part of New Jersey Squad Five and were assigned to the Wedge Canyon Fire.

Patrick is also the future son-in-law of Howard.  Patrick is engaged to Heather Hee who is a dispatcher with the Cumberland County Communications Center (www.mindspring.com/~cc911)
