| Five Alarm Fire On Mulberry Street |
|
Fire
caused extensive damage to the rear of a 2 family dwelling on Friday
June 27th. There was significant damage to remainder of the house
at 416 E. Mulberry St.
Chief
Kurt Hess stated "There was heavy fire at the back of the house
when we arrived. We stopped the fire from going to the front, but
it will be up to the construction officer to determine if the house can
be repaired."
The
interior was extremely hot due to the progress the fire had made prior
to the Fire Department's arrival. The battle was made more
difficult by the steamy summer temperature and humidity. "The
Millville Rescue Squad set up a rehab zone to check the firefighters'
blood pressure and make sure they were cooled down." Chief
Hess related.
Fighting the fire were 34
Millville Firefighters along with 12 Firefighters from South
Vineland, six from Cumberland and the Chief of Mauricetown, Freddie
Hunt. Three Firefighters from Gouldtown were stationed at the
Millville firehouse. 10 Cumberland County Fire Police helped Millville
Police with traffic control
The
cause of the fire is still under investigation by Career Firefighters Dave
Smith and Doug
Hallquist along with Police Sgt. Paul Deckert and Sgt. Ronald
A. Harvey. Two families were displaced by the fire and are
being assisted by The Red Cross.
The
alarm was sounded at 4:09 p.m. Engine 30 was the first apparatus
to arrive on scene at 4:14 p.m. The fire was declared under control at
5:33 p.m. All firefighters had returned to the firehouse by 7:50
p.m.

A Different Look At Millville "Air" Show |
|
The Canadian Snowbirds strutted their stuff during the
Air Show but one bird was left behind on the ground. The
number 8 plane took to the air after the show. After it's flight
it made it safely back to the ground but did not have quite enough fuel
to make it all the way back to it's perch.
Members of The Millville Fire Department lent a
neighborly hand to see #8 back in it's parking space.
