Cumberland County Firemen's association recently named "The Crew of
Engine 30" as co-recipients of the "Firefighter of The Year" award
for saving a victim's life during a house fire.
On
February 24th at 09:00 hours the Fire Department responded to a
house on Archer Street for a reported dwelling fire with
entrapment. Upon arrival the team consisting of Career Firefighter
Curt Lowe, Lieutenant Howard Hee, Firefighters Larry Fawcett, Rick
Lappine, and Charlie Schaffer began search and rescue while fighting
the fire.
In
spite of intense heat and heavy smoke conditions Firefighter
Schaffer and Lieutenant Hee searched the apartment for the resident
while Firefighters Fawcett and Lappine battled the blaze. Career
Firefighter Lowe operated Engine 30 and maintained the critical
water supply enabling the attack crew to fight the fire and the
rescue possible.
While Firefighter Schaffer controlled the fire the resident was
found in the bathroom of the apartment. The victim was rescued by
being pulled out of the smoke and heat filled apartment by
Firefighters Lappine, Fawcett, and Lieutenant Howard Hee.
